For those of you who feel you lack enough angst in your life, this is superb. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] alasdair1076 for passing the link along!

Another link: [livejournal.com profile] o_faolain points out something rather important for those of you who enjoy listening to live music. If you don't want to see live music disappear, go and read, then follow his link to sign the petition.

Weekend update... )

Right, enough of this lj malarkey! It's time to force-quite WinZip Pro and try again to update that pesky zip archive for work...

Oh, but before I go, I have started a new knitting project - a cashmere lace shawl... More about that later. *beam*

I got up late, avoided talking with the Jehovah's Witnesses, wandered into town with [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas and nattered to folks in VJs. All good fun. I even got another 3 scenes of Squirrels edited - more to do. I have lapsang souchong tea from Whittard's, and I've ordered a rather spiffy pair of slide gloves for longboarding with. Must find an empty car park and go practise. It'd help if I had the oomph to walk back from town with any speed, but hey, never mind, eh? My brain's come back in part today, which is lovely. Hi, brain! *hugs* Also done a spot of laundry, refilled the bird feeders, and sat on the sofa with tea. That's about it. Oh, there were a couple of episodes of Firefly on earlier. So very, very good. (Train Job and Bushwacked)

Last night was Brett's birthday, celebrated at Fiesta Mexicana. Which was lovely, and great to see people. I suspect there may have been some cow milk in addition to coconut milk in the pina colada, though, as all of a sudden I felt very 'I've had dairy, oh dear' nauseous. Which, yes, is different from my 'I've had too much to drink' nausea. Because I hadn't. Ho hum, never mind, eh?

Weight: 150 lbs. Exercise: walked 3 ish miles. Alcohol: 0. Writing: 3 scenes of Squirrels revised.

Using the user pic because I can, mmkay?

My *other* other twin! Weddings, birthdays, friends, Disney!, yada yada. )

Tomorrow's plan: write the other review and a half. Write the sequel to Last Chance for Sin. Critique writing group stories. Stuff.

This is bad. And wrong. You should watch it. So I have people to share the OMG WTF 0.o with. :)

So yesterday was my annual barbeque. [livejournal.com profile] nearly_everyone attended, and people seemed to have a great time, which makes me very happy. People didn't seem to mind me running around in circles, being unable to finish sentences, and foisting huge quantities of food onto them. People also brought their small people, who raced around and generally had a fab time and didn't fall into the pond and drown. Which is definitely a bonus.

Thank you *so* much to you all for coming! It was an awesome day, spent in the company of lots of people who I know and love. You're amazing!

I have: a fox, a red sticklebrick, a yellow pencil crayon, and a black cherokee jumper. I know who the sticklebrick belongs to - any takers for the others?

ETA:Jumper claimed! And fox claimed!

And thank you guys for the awesome selection of wool, vouchers for wool, vast quantities of truly excellent chocolate, and lush bath stuff. Truly the perfect presents! *is so happy*

You are awesome. And to the few of you who couldn't make it, you have a standing invitation to come and visit, as you should know by now. So get in touch, come visit, and we'll barbeque anyway. *grin*

In other news: today I did lots of washing, a little tidying up, and some writing. It's been my first vegging 'day off' in a long time, it feels like! And tomorrow the very last part of Correspondence Course goes up over at [livejournal.com profile] the_proofreader. So if you were waiting to read it all? Head on over in the morning and it'll be waiting for you. *grin*

Waffley-McWaffle )

Anyhow, in celebration of the occasion, and because [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas and I have singularly failed to have a 'hey, we got married!' party, and because I haven't thrown a party in ages:

You are cordially invited to my birthday/wedding bbq/party!

When: Saturday 7th June
Where: My house
What time: 2pm onwards for barbequeing and for small people who need a garden to run around in. Probably going on until midnight, or until the comestibles run out.

I will provide: a couple of barbeques, charcoal, some food and booze, and (with luck) a gazebo for if it rains and a large medieval tent because it's really ace and a good excuse to put it up. Also, yanno, paper plates, plastic beakers, etc etc.

You can provide: your own good selves and anything specific you want to eat or drink, and anything else you think is a Good IdeaTM.

Also if anyone wants any bamboo (I recommend planting it in a pot because it spreads and takes over, but very slowly), I can provide you with a fork and a spade and point you in the direction of my bamboo grove which needs digging up. Help yourself. Please. *whimper*

Many happy returns of the day to [livejournal.com profile] o_faolain - Happy Birthday!
ellenscult: (melting)
I can has goo. Ta muchly, whoever passed it along. The good news - should be fine by Saturday. If anyone wants to call off for fear of catching this yum-tastic snotty cold, I'll understand totally.

So, the weekend. )

Many happy returns of the day to Derek! Yay!

Happies to [livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine!

In other news, we got a 46 quid refund on the train tickets. And [livejournal.com profile] palmersperry has a fractured bone in his back, courtesy of a cyclist who didn't appear to know anything about the highway code, misdiagnosed courtesy of the NHS. I am still curled up on the sofa. I have left it to soak in the bath and to pop to Morrisons for something for dinner. I am not hungry. Well, I am. But I'm not...

I took [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas off to London this weekend for his birthday. Which was the weekend before, in case you were wondering. (And yes, he'd pretty much forgotten about it, and doesn't tell anyone about it.)

Details, Schmetails! )

So that was the weekend. [livejournal.com profile] alasdair1076 called me. I have Torchwood squeeeee! Awesome! Utterly, uttely awesome.

If anyone has a muppet icon I could use - you know, where they run around in circles waving their arms above their heads - that's me right now.

No, really! Here, have a meme, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] o_faolain: Jukebox Meme )

Feel free to head on over to his lj and post answers - he's a lot better at this than I am! lol

Okay, when did I last post? Um. Friday? Oops. Well, here be a long and boring update: )

Today - work again, oddly enough. Oh, and I voted. If you have the chance to, go vote today. Even if you think it won't make any difference. It's important.

And [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas has ordered my wedding ring. *happy happy* So shiny! So sparkly! I will never get anything done ever again for being distracted by it. Well, I've got a month.

Oh, and we just need to plan a wedding... *shrug* Anyone have any ideas about running a Call of Cthulhu Murder Mystery?
ellenscult: (not)
After the best part of a week at home, thanks to the coughing lurgy, I'm back at work. And today's commute was no better than last Monday's, making it 2 weeks in a row when I should just have stayed in bed. Last Monday, thanks to Notwork Rail's over-running engineering works, my train was cancelled at Doncaster. Then everyone from a packed 4-carriage Virgin train had to pile onto an even more packed 2-carriage Northern train. Oh, joy. This Monday, thanks to Virgin's incompetence, there weren't enough train crew, so they cancelled my train altogether. Meaning there were two train-loads packed onto the next Virgin train going south. People still fail to realise that the lack of paper tickets stuffed in the back of seats doesn't mean that there are no seat reservations. And rude, middle-aged women don't see why they should give up their (unbooked) seat to the elderly, infirm woman who actually booked it. And some guys just don't seem to realise that if you're standing in the aisle, you can actually put your bag down, rather than smacking me in the head with it every time you turn...

Big stick. Biiiig stick.

Still, I'm not really coughing. And the government information pack on the coming smoking ban arrived in the post today, making all of us (bar the director who is the only smoker in the company) cackle in glee. We're *so* looking forward to July 1st! Hah.

So, what did I get up to on my week off? Well, apart from sleeping and coughing, I went to my writing group and rewrote The Gallery of Frost a couple of times. I knitted 3 socks. I went to my dressmaking class and got my invisible zip sample done, and I handed in my podcasting article to Hub. I created my own podcast, and I potted up some plants. I did some laundry. I went and sat in the steam room at the gym a couple of times, which helped with the not-coughing. And I went to VJs and to [livejournal.com profile] clotilde's and saw people and that was lovely. I drank lots of tea, and read half of Alastair Reynolds' 'Pushing Ice'. And that's about it.

After not being on the 'puter all weekend, I find I owe a big shoutout:

Another long trip... )

So, no snow. Where's my snow? That's not my snow! It goes whoosh! That is the wind. That's not my snow...

No, not short of sleep at all. Why do you ask?

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] gothgrr!

And apologies for being naff and not wishing you happy returns when I saw you yesterday. I hope today's a great day, and the year brings you many happy shiny things.

Christmas: or, How I Learned to Stick to Chanukah... )

Back in York, [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas and I went sales shopping. I bought: 3 pairs of pyjamas, 4 towels, a lamp and some monster furry slippers from BHS. And then we went to Monsoon, and I bought a pair of trousers. [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas bought me a silk skirt and a jacket, and the jacket wasn't even in the sale! He's so good to me, and I don't deserve him. We called into Game, and [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas got a computer game, and I did too, only mine was only £1.99, so I'm not expecting great things of it. Then we had dinner at Russell's Carvery, went home, came back into town, gave said monster slippers to [livejournal.com profile] a_crow for his birthday, saw his flat - v. envious as it's in one of the Georgian town houses on Micklegate, and it's a gorgeous building - and went out for a drink. Various folks were there, and I got to see Vicky's Peru photos, but all too soon we had to head home as we're at work today. Only... when I got home, I opened a bottle of wine and sat and watched Pretty Woman, which is still a darned good film. So I got to bed at 1:30am, rather squiffy, and though I could catch a later train into work, I'm still tired and a wee bit achey. Meh. That'll teach me... Oh, and I have done No Writing. At all. I will have to rectify this state of affairs.

So far today, I've done no work whatsoever. I suspect that state of affairs will continue until next week... *heh*

Many and varied things lie herein: the weekend, friends, my proselytism, Disney Land, dressmaking, yada yada yada *deep breath* ) And of course, the most important thing is that I've finally used YouTube for its rightful purpose. Which is watching Depeche Mode videos. I may never get any work done again! lol
ellenscult: (writing)
In which our heroine gets some excercise, is more organised, less organised, and has cheesecake... )

And all this is writing-avoidance. So I'm going to grab another cup of tea and buckle back down. I want to get 2 short stories finished off and get back onto book editing if poss.

But first, a belated shout-out...

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] palmersperry, for yesterday!
