Several random things...

1. Lincoln was lovely. It was rather special to be able to camp in the grounds of the castle, and I really enjoyed bimbling around in my medieval outfit, making stuff and chatting and relaxing.

2. Must make a List for packing, and also acquire a TARDIS or a larger car. Packing is Not FunTM.

3. Nice to see folks at the Theatre Royal sale. I bought all their remaining fox furs and a couple of pieces of silk. And a blouse.

4. When running round like a loony, doing mad frantic last-minute sewing and having just written a clean, postable 32,000 word fanfic novella in 2 weeks, and being in the middle of hoiking stuff out to pack into a Fiesta to go away for my first ever reenactment event, that's the time my oomph will vanish out from under me, and I will fall into the Slough of Despond AND the Pit of Despair. I love writing, but the come-down's a bitch. Also, [livejournal.com profile] alasdair1076 is wonderful and I'm extremely glad he's my best friend.

5. [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas is a truly amazing man, and is very, very hot in a doublet and hose. *fans self* Truly I am a very lucky woman! No, I have no photos. This time. Next time, though... *grin* And he is wonderful with Aspergic kids.

6. Got a lot of work to get through this week. Posting this (and Correspondence Course over on [livejournal.com profile] the_proofreader) is not getting it done. So. I may be slow to reply to comments, emails etc.

7. RIP Audrey Chapman, a very brave and fierce woman. She had a hard life, and I hope now she has some peace. I'll miss her.

8. There is no number 8. Oh well. Tumty-tumty-something... nope. Gone. *shrug*

So I shall go too. Tea break's over. Back on my head.

I took [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas off to London this weekend for his birthday. Which was the weekend before, in case you were wondering. (And yes, he'd pretty much forgotten about it, and doesn't tell anyone about it.)

Details, Schmetails! )

So that was the weekend. [livejournal.com profile] alasdair1076 called me. I have Torchwood squeeeee! Awesome! Utterly, uttely awesome.

If anyone has a muppet icon I could use - you know, where they run around in circles waving their arms above their heads - that's me right now.

I know I've been a bit lax in wishing people happy birthday lately (doh!), so here goes (in date order):

Belated Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] thirstypixel, [livejournal.com profile] spindr, Fleur, and for last Saturday, Kate and [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas! And just to be on the safe side, Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] makyo for tomorrow!

My apologies if I've missed anyone...

Last week? Busy. This week? Even more busy. This weekend? [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas' birthday treat is a trip to London to see Wicked and Spamalot. Yay! Next week? Almost certainly busy again. Ho hum.

If you want to see me, I am hereby declaring Thursday nights 'open house night'. I'll be home some time between 6 and 6:30, barring train problems. You're welcome to come round and visit. And if you tell me in advance you're coming, I may even be able to provide biscuits, sandwiches, hot drinks, mulled wine, yada yada.

No, I'm not available to come visit you, not this week or next week, and maybe not the week after. Sorry, that's just the way it goes. I have a Chinese exam coming up, a dressmaking course, and a writing/proof-reading career, outside of my full-time job. To say nothing of 4 siblings, several parents and assorted friends to make presents for. And that makes the run-up to Christmas rather busy.

Oh, and I have a wedding to plan. Btw, anyone coming to my hen do? [livejournal.com profile] ayrton_nix needs to know numbers, I think.

Do any of you fancy a night out in Leeds tomorrow?

It is, apparently, a 'city of light' type open event thingummy where they're celebrating numpty-hundred years of being a chartered city. Lots of places will be open.

My friend Dawn is after people to wander round in period costume (thanks to an agency cock-up). If you don't have any, she should be able to supply it. It involves simply going and having a cuppa in Starbucks, in costume, or going to the pub, in costume. Just generally wandering around Leeds city centre in costume.

There's a burlesque show that you can go to as part of the event, and there's a small budget for aforementioned pubbage. Plus there's a party afterwards.

Any takers? I need to know asap, pretty please.

No, really! Here, have a meme, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] o_faolain: Jukebox Meme )

Feel free to head on over to his lj and post answers - he's a lot better at this than I am! lol

Okay, when did I last post? Um. Friday? Oops. Well, here be a long and boring update: )

Today - work again, oddly enough. Oh, and I voted. If you have the chance to, go vote today. Even if you think it won't make any difference. It's important.

And [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas has ordered my wedding ring. *happy happy* So shiny! So sparkly! I will never get anything done ever again for being distracted by it. Well, I've got a month.

Oh, and we just need to plan a wedding... *shrug* Anyone have any ideas about running a Call of Cthulhu Murder Mystery?

Goodbye Easter, farewell Pesach: )

My old friend Rob Nightingale has a gig on tonight at William's Bar (opposite Oxfam on Goodramgate) from about 7:30 iirc. Anyone fancy it? He's very good, and rather funny, and it's in a good cause (something involving sick children). So no writing group tonight, probably.

... or how our intrepid heroes journey forth into the wilds of South Yorkshire and make it home in time for tea.

Sunday's adventures: )

[livejournal.com profile] matociquala has a link to a George Takei video clip. Much respect, that man. *glee*

The second issue of Hub magazine will be out next week, I believe. Make sure you get your copy! I don't have a story in it, but I do have an article in it, so that's all right, then. ;-)

Many and varied things lie herein: the weekend, friends, my proselytism, Disney Land, dressmaking, yada yada yada *deep breath* ) And of course, the most important thing is that I've finally used YouTube for its rightful purpose. Which is watching Depeche Mode videos. I may never get any work done again! lol

Party on!

Work is very busy atm, so I'll keep this brief (and if anyone can tell me how to make a photo fade to transparent at the edges in CorelDraw - I can do it in SnagIt, but meh - please, take pity on me and let me know!)... Champagne, massage, fun, mmm... )

Long weekend... )

Happy belated birthday, [livejournal.com profile] paul_marks and [livejournal.com profile] ant_girl!

Gaming, POTC II and Tewkesbury )

So all in all, a good weekend. I hope [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas gets better soon and doesn't give me his lurgy.

In brief: alright, cut for being not-so-brief )

Got back to York with no train hassle in good time for Dr Who - oh, back to cheesy, are we? How cheesy? More than a 4 cheeses pizza with extra cheese. So of course I enjoyed it! *beam* Especially for the look on Rose's face when the Doctor said, "I was a dad once". *heh* *evil grin* The preview for next week's one looks stonking, though, so I'm eagerly anticipating it.

Speaking of which, the House season finale - spoiler alert -  )must be watched...

Sunday, well, the gym, 3 loads of washing and 1 dishwasher load later, and I've finished my very first pair of knitted socks. The toes are a bit funny - the pattern's none too clear - but I'm wearing them today and my feet haven't exploded, so that's alright then. And today it are mostly back on my head. Meh.

Thanks to all for birthday wishes, and thank you very much for presents and cards. It's very kind!

Birthdays and almost relatives and mountains and stuff )

In case anyone is wondering, I'm now 21 again. Give or take 10 years. (Hint: I'm not 11...)
ellenscult: (Default)
Right. Life is getting busy again. Now I actually have things booked, I figure I'll let you all know what's going on.

Cut for those who don't care: )

So there you are. If you want me to be somewhere, doing whatever, it'll have to be around what's already in there. Let me know!

Now this does pose problems for actually having a Saturday birthday barbeque. So I'm thinking I'll maybe just end up having a meal this year, and anyone who wants to come along can do so. I might have a Sunday barbeque, though, which won't go on past around 10pm. Thoughts?

Erm... Blame [livejournal.com profile] jaylake for this link...

The New Statesman was absolutely fantastic. There were some forgotten lines, some dodgy props, and some great ad-libbing, and I nearly split my sides laughing. I even had an ice-cream. Well, two, as [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas didn't want his. *licks lips* Go see it if you get the chance; it's on at the Grand Opera House in York all this week.

I've been to the gym 3 days in a row, so I'm feeling virtuous, if no less flabby. I used the gym and went swimming on Sunday, went swimming yesterday, and used the gym this morning. I even have an appointment on Thursday to sort out some sort of a training program. I really do have to get fitter and lose weight. My jeans are too tight. Meh.

[livejournal.com profile] ravenlas is wanting to go for a meal out to the Oriental Pearl in Clifton on Saturday the 26th of November. If you fancy going along too, let me know and I'll book places.

I went climbing with James, Regan and [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas at Leeds Wall yesterday evening. [livejournal.com profile] john_hatt was there too. [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas did great, getting up a 3+, 4, 5, 5+ and most of the way up a 6a+, and his ankle didn't give him too much trouble. I hopped up a 4, 5, 5+ and made it all the way up the 6a+ (fell off once, took a bunch of rests). Yay!

I had a good morning today... I got out onto 5th Ave and my back light fell off. I picked it up and carried on. 200 yards down the road, the screw came out of my glasses and the right lens popped out. I picked it up and carried on. 200 yards down the road, my other back light fell off. I stopped, swore, picked it up and carried on. I managed to get to the station, get my newspaper, and dash to the train. Then when I got to Sheffield I got a veggie sausage, egg & tomato sandwich for breakfast - much better. And very soon I'll get to go out and have my glasses put back together. Then the world won't look slightly fuzzy any more. Bah!
