Hiya all,
It's a Monday, and yes, this 'early' posting does indeed mean that I've made it into work for the first time in a week and a half. I have *so* much work to do it's not funny, and I'm already feeling grainy-eyed and tired. *sigh* Some of it's my own fault - it was a long weekend. But some of it I blame on Jerry and Adam, who wouldn't let me sleep much in the car on the way to Coventry and back, but kept on tickling me. Seriously, guys, you're lucky not to lose arms...
Went to see the Reduced Shakespeare Company doing All the Great Books at the Opera House on Friday night. It was very funny, as you'd expect. They asked the audience to fill in papers in the interval listing what we think are the two greatest books, giving reasons. My two were For Whom the Bell Tolls, by Hemingway, on the grounds that my twin is named after the heroine, and was distinctly unchuffed to find out that said heroine dies in childbirth at the age of 21, and Crime and Punishment, because 'he gets what he deserves and it's in Russian, so what more could you want?'
So what are your two 'greatest' books, and why?
The Coventry trip on Saturday (thanks to Marcus for driving) was to the Re-enactors' Market, held every 6 months and packed with goodies. I cried at having to leave behind the beautiful del Tin 15th century German gothic copy of a sword in the Armouries in Leeds. But I have a black velvet corset and a horn-handled rondel dagger which is exceedingly pretty and sharp and pointy, so that's ok...
Managed to also visit Nick Jackson and the lovely Abby, which was great, so to those of you who know Nick, he says 'Hello!' He was asking after a lot of you, and commented that lots of people have got married recently. Which started me thinking. How is it that people do get married? I've never managed it, and haven't really been asked (desparation doesn't count). So I'd love to hear from any of you who've got married, or got engaged, or are thinking about the whole business. I realise that in this day and age, I'm free to propose to men at will, but I do think that if men aren't proposing to you it's because they aren't thinking in those terms, so proposing to them will result in them screaming and running away. Maybe it's just the guys I know... So what makes men think about proposing? Why do they do it? Is it spur of the moment, or meticulously planned? Why do women say yes? Do they say yes? The whole area is a mystery to me, so please enlighten me!
Woody called on Sunday morning and woke me out of a very bizarre dream. Something about hotels, and mysteries, and evil cat sorcerers and bizarre dog magic. The best bits (that I remember) were a plastic dog head bouncing down the pavement leading someone somewhere (the cats were after this guy for some unknown reason). The plastic dog head was really a dog magician, and he wasn't too much on our side either, so at one point he stopped and the head sparked, and popped out into a full plastic dog, then turned into a real dog that was growing larger and more menacing. Then the dog noticed the evil cat sorcerers that were guarding a building (but because it was cold, they were guarding it in threes, sliding up and down poles - don't ask...) and the dog popped back into being the 'harmless' plastic dog head. And on Sunday night, Derek's game moved into more paranoid weirdness with my life being a series of false memories, my flat and bookshop being window-dressing poorly finished, and a horrible Timmy (TME) attacking us. Alright, not actually attacking us, but being very menacing. Colin reckons it stands for Totally Monstrous Entity. But that's what you get for playing in one of Derek's horror games... *big grin*
So... if anyone knows why I get such freaky dreams when I sleep alone, please let me know! (And no, I didn't get freaky dreams last night, but no, I wasn't sleeping on my own; I just need about 5 hours more sleep. Because I had to get up for work, you pervs! *blush* *mutter*
Today, I think I will be mostly puzzled.

You know, I've never actually read Bridget Jones' Diary? Seen the film, which was ok, though. And yes, I know that's not the same thing... *grin*

I'll see if I can make it to your party. Abi doesn't reckon she'll be able to, though - she's got an essay (for the part-time MSc in Housing Studies she's doing) due in a couple of weeks later, and will probably be busy working on that.
