Putting the weekend on hold...
Dec. 6th, 2008 06:11 pmI am very tired - no full-blown CFS, just tired and my concentration's not great, so I'm a bit vague and rambly. Yes, more so than usual... And I have cramps. Bah. I don't think I'll be going out again this weekend except for maybe calling to the launderette to get my washing dried. So my apologies, Derek, for this evening, and
gothgrr - I doubt I'll be going to boxercise tomorrow. Bah. Humbug.
Otoh, D&D 4th edition is actually fairly straightforward in combat. Which is kinda cool since I have problems with remembering what I'm supposed to be rolling and when in 3.5. And I'm (re)watching Galaxy Quest, which I intend to follow up with True Lies, then either Les Visiteurs or
ravenlas's new dvd - Strippers V. Zombies.
Quote of the day: (in HMV) Adam: 'I never thought I'd say this, but which Zombie Stripper film?'
Normal communication should be resumed next week...

Taking things easy
Nov. 13th, 2008 03:44 pmI've given up on the idea of going back to work this week. Specifically (after yesterday's dream in which my twin sister stropped at me for being lazy), last night's dream featured Jerry as a Dead Set-style zombie biting my ankle. It hurt! I have zombie dreams when I'm overtired. Going into work will make me ill. So. Hello, sofa!
G.E.D. month - yesterday, more written on a story (not on the list), chopped up t-shirts and strung the strips together for knitting into a bathmat (also not on the list) - was ace to see
gothgrr! Today I have done a bit of knitting on that shawl for my mum. It's growing very slowly... Ho hum!
And that story (over on
the_proofreader, read the warnings first if you go take a look) appears to have attracted a bunch of comments with... interesting... icons. *grin* Well, I'm glad that lj is such a friendly and open place. And I'm very glad they're enjoying the story so far. :)
Today,
o_faolain came over and brought photos music and lunch and most of all excellent company. I have very much missed seeing him on the train! It was awesome to see him again. :)

The right words in the right places...
Nov. 12th, 2008 12:01 pmStill coughing a bit, goo has receded, so I'll be back in work tomorrow. Hurrah! Because this morning I had a dream in which my twin was working for the same company, and she was in a baaaaad mood. Told me off for being lazy. To be fair, the people I work for were all very, 'What's her problem?' and 'No you're not', but clearly part of me feels it's time to be back at work.
G.E.D. Month - not much, yesterday. Handed over some clothes at writing group, tightened the loose screw in the display cabinet door. Oh, and wrote more. This story (which is not the story I should be working on) is now over 8,000 words. Written since Sunday night. Ho hum, never mind, eh? I shall get it out of the way today, I hope, and then back to the other one.

G.E.D. month / things free to a good home
Nov. 9th, 2008 12:06 pmFriday was a bit of a bust. I got some more knitting done, but I woke up with ulcers where my tonsils used to be. Which was rather sore. So I left work early, went home and tidied up more of the spare room and saw Sue, Dave and India (wanolj), failed to have a D&D game, sat on the sofa and watched telly. With takeout. And wine. Hurrah!
Saturday, though, kicked ass (for G.E.D. month, that is). Not quite such a sore throat, so I got up early(ish) and went to Ikea. Where I spent a chunk of my dividend (in lieu of pay), had to get a nice man to help me put boxes on the trolley and another nice man to help me put them in the car. Which was rather full. *heh*
So Saturday's list looks like:
Fitted draught excluder to the back of the letter box.
Put legs on the huge table.
Tidied more of the spare room.
Bought and put up shelves in the kitchen.
Tidied kitchen.
Bought more shelves for the kitchen and for the hallway.
Bought curtain rail for the hallway.
Bought 3 chests of drawers for the spare room to replace the current ones.
Emptied the paper shredder
Also (but not on the list) did several loads of washing and took them to the launderette to dry, went to VJs and saw friends (yay!) and met up with
paul_marks who is visiting while Tuesday.
Go me! *happy dance*
At some point today I intend to take and put up photos of the clothes which are going free to a good home (there are more). Would anyone like a wide 3-drawer Malmo chest of drawers (Ikea) in birch veneer? Also there's a little white 3-drawer MFI-style cheapass chest of drawers going free! I'll even drop it round to your house! As long as, yanno, that's York. Leeds, maybe. Bread machine, anyone?
( Kitchen shelves! )
Right, back to drilling holes in the walls...

Writing Hell Month: Day 1
Sep. 1st, 2008 10:55 pmToday I started work on Squirrels In Space again. I intend to finish it by the end of the month. Edited. Done. It should be do-able. I have hope. I wrote a synopsis and analysed character threads. And I wrote another 500 words of Shed World. Not actually Shed World, but the shared world project that the writing group is doing. And I proofread a pile of things for Hub.
I need to do some work for work, yanno...
Also, I went to Asda, put on washing, put out washing, brought in washing, hung up washing, made lamb casserole. Well, stew, since there was too much to put in my casserole dish in the oven, and I have a bigger pan. And stir fry, so there was something to eat tonight.
I call today a win, mostly.
I have a bit of a rash on my ring finger. Allegedly, boiling my rings in a 2/1 vinegar/hydrogen peroxide solution for 15 minutes will kill anything on them. And so I wait for the rash to clear up so that I can wear my beautiful rings again.
This month is my writing month. At points I am going to become extremely anti-social, and possibly even rude and grumpy. So this is my apology before-hand: it's nothing personal. But I have to work, now, and it is going to eat my head, and then (as one of my friends said about extreme babysitting) I will lose all my social. Sorry. I still love you all.
Oh, and I can tell it's back-to-school today. Films this evening? Slither, Gattaca, White Noise 1. A programme on Wahabism. Very end-of-the-world...
Edit: Weight: 153.5 lbs. Exercise: 4 miles on the bike, 5 km on the cross-trainer. Alcohol: 0. I put a mini bottle of red wine in with the lamb, but we haven't eaten that yet. And all the alcohol will long have boiled off anyway.

Rebooting my brain...
Jul. 5th, 2008 08:12 pmThings this week:
The good:
I made a big orange medieval gown with dagged sleeves for going to Dinan with. Yeah, could also come under 'the ugly' depending on how you feel about orange...
Crimefighting
My first story for the
shiny_hats ficathon has been received very well. Hurrah!
Doctor Who!!!
A big thunderstorm
Catching up with
o_faolain
More bike gears working atm.
ravenlas
The bad:
My laptop is with the insurers after having half a glass of wine spilled over it
I should be in Cambridge and Leeds and Huddersfield today, or at least watching Hancock with my beloved husband. Instead, I got up, did a bit of sewing, then went back to bed for the entire afternoon.
The ugly:
Well, there's that gown...
Running out of time to make clothes for Dinan...

Deadline Day!
Jun. 20th, 2008 01:48 pmThe conference was really good. I didn't run off with $DiscoStu (shudder) or $BobHoskins (a really nice guy who said to tell Jerry he's a very lucky man). I didn't disgrace myself or embarrass the company. I did go swimming in my pirate bikini. The after-dinner speaker was Dominick Holland who seemed a tad bemused by his IT audience.
I am back. Today is deadline day. The help file is nearly finished. Which means....
Real Life should be resumed shortly! By dinnertime, no less! Hurrah.
Then all I have to do is open the post, find and sign the remortgage documents (and hope the offer's still valid), clean and tidy the entire house, make medieval outfits for 4 people, charge through a slushpile, finish 2 short stories and finish editing a novel, and the weekend's a good 'un!
Well, maybe I'll save some of it for, yanno, the evenings I'll actually have free when this help file is done.

Battling on...
May. 6th, 2008 03:08 pmSeveral random things...
1. Lincoln was lovely. It was rather special to be able to camp in the grounds of the castle, and I really enjoyed bimbling around in my medieval outfit, making stuff and chatting and relaxing.
2. Must make a List for packing, and also acquire a TARDIS or a larger car. Packing is Not FunTM.
3. Nice to see folks at the Theatre Royal sale. I bought all their remaining fox furs and a couple of pieces of silk. And a blouse.
4. When running round like a loony, doing mad frantic last-minute sewing and having just written a clean, postable 32,000 word fanfic novella in 2 weeks, and being in the middle of hoiking stuff out to pack into a Fiesta to go away for my first ever reenactment event, that's the time my oomph will vanish out from under me, and I will fall into the Slough of Despond AND the Pit of Despair. I love writing, but the come-down's a bitch. Also,
alasdair1076 is wonderful and I'm extremely glad he's my best friend.
5.
ravenlas is a truly amazing man, and is very, very hot in a doublet and hose. *fans self* Truly I am a very lucky woman! No, I have no photos. This time. Next time, though... *grin* And he is wonderful with Aspergic kids.
6. Got a lot of work to get through this week. Posting this (and Correspondence Course over on
the_proofreader) is not getting it done. So. I may be slow to reply to comments, emails etc.
7. RIP Audrey Chapman, a very brave and fierce woman. She had a hard life, and I hope now she has some peace. I'll miss her.
8. There is no number 8. Oh well. Tumty-tumty-something... nope. Gone. *shrug*
So I shall go too. Tea break's over. Back on my head.

I should be...
Mar. 14th, 2008 07:20 pm- in shul
- writing
- printing thank you letters and wedding photos
- making a list of things to get my name changed on
- cleaning and tidying
- writing a long and rambling post about the wedding and the honeymoon
- emailing people
... and a whole pile of other things.
But.
I have a Lush Makonga longboard. From the Anti-Gravity shop. Yes, it's the one in pink... *beam* And I woke up at 4.50am again, and I'm tired. And I have a PSP to play on (on loan).
Medieval (or Dungeon Siege). And bubbly. And maybe some take-out. Have a great evening, y'all! Shabbat Shalom!
