I tried to get to work today, I really did. I pulled out my old Royal Mail coat, since it's the biggest waterproof I have, and by the time I got to York station my trousers were completely soaked through from the knee down. Wringing wet. And the train was on time. And then, due to congestion, we were about 10 minutes late into Doncaster. And we set off to Sheffield. And then, some way past Conisborough, the train stopped. And sat there. And eventually it turned out that we couldn't go forwards because the River Don was rising too quickly for Network Rail's liking. Even more eventually, we got back to Doncaster, where my train promptly became the 10:17 to Newcastle. No trains running south. No trains running north from Derby. No coaches, either, as the M1's shut due to flooding. So I lent my phone to people to call their workplaces, and I called in, and I cackled and sang all the way home again. My soggy trousers are in the wash, and I'm going to take advantage of this unexpected gift of a half-day to go surprise
ravenlas at lunch. Yay! I might even go make that medieval shift I've been thinking about. Oh, and someone's coming to view the house this afternoon.
Hurrah for rain! My pond, it overfloweth! (Which confuseth the tadpoles no end...)
I hope your days are all going well and not too soggily.
