I can has goo. Ta muchly, whoever passed it along. The good news - should be fine by Saturday. If anyone wants to call off for fear of catching this yum-tastic snotty cold, I'll understand totally.
ravenlas and I headed down to Aldershot in the company of friends Dave, Sue and India. We got there at midnight and stayed at the Premier Inn, which wasn't bad at all. Thanks to the prevalence of, shall we say, cropped-haired fit and muscley young men and women, the rooms are very clean, the beds exceptionally well-made, and the breakfasts are vast and plentiful. As is the hot water. :)
This isn't a part of the UK I've ever actually visited before, so it was really interesting to see how pretty it is, in parts. We went to Farnham, to the Maltings, where there's a large antiques fair. I got a reel of waxed silk, a needle case, a brooch and a couple of glass paperweights, and
ravenlas very kindly bought me a 1906 Star of David and a bone/ivory stiletto - very pretty (for putting eyelets in cloth). We also raided a charity shop (couple of books, and an 11th birthday present for India), and the wool shop (another few balls of sock wool). And all in all, Saturday was a good one. We also met up with India's cousins, aunt and uncle, including a chubby baby called Wyatt, and a very profoundly disabled little girl called Sorcha. She's just a year younger than India.
Then Sunday, first thing, came the bad news. Sorcha died in the night. She'd had a good day, surrounded by the people she loved, and who loved her very much. Yes, she was in increasing amounts of pain, but she'd beaten the '6 weeks to live' prognosis she was given at birth by, ooh, 9 years. And she died very quickly and painlessly, which in my opinion can only be a good thing. It's desperately sad, and she will be missed incredibly.
We went to Alton and wandered around the Iron age fort and picked up piles of flint. I have one which looks like a potato, and has apparently had a tree root grow into it. It kind of creeps me out - I keep thinking some spidery thing's going to crawl out... Winchester was cold, but the city museum is lovely if small. And then we travelled back oop north. And collapsed in heaps of goo.
Blech.
Tomorrow I'll be back at work, I reckon. Monday I spent doing a pile of work on my blouse for college. The collar's finished; I made up the sleeves, and I've started putting them in. Today, I sat in the bath for an hour, caught up on LJ, started writing one review and pretty much finished a second. Oh, and I finished reading Matter, the latest Iain M. Banks Culture novel. It's awesome. Well worth the wait.
Now I need tea. And munchies. Of some sort. Meh, with the diet.
Many happy returns of the day to Derek! Yay!
