What did I get up to this last weekend? Hmmm... Went to VJ's on Saturday morning and saw a thoroughly adorable Rowan there. She has such big eyes! And she was very entertained by [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas's pocket tissue packs - they had bright orange wrapping, and were very squishable (and edible, apparently). She's a beautiful baby, and Tom and Anita are very lucky parents. Not that I got broody, oh no. *big grin* It's easy to be broody around Rowan - she's fantastic.

I got Book 1 of Bach's preludes and fugues, so I can practice the fugues again. Oh joy, 4 separate melodic lines all going on at once. Remind me again why I love it? ;)

Spent Saturday evening at Elaine's, watching The Ladykillers and Kind Hearts and Coronets. I must say I'm intrigued by the remake of the Ladykillers - it's the Coen bros (apparently) and Tom Hanks - but how can it compare to the original? Which is one of the best comedies ever, imo.

Sunday was supposed to be Car Boot Sale madness - but given the weather on Saturday and the forecast for Sunday, we've agreed to postpone it a week. So I got out of bed after midday, and eventually wandered back into town with [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas, who went to the Chinese place (Herbal Inn?) on Coney St and got acupunctured and oodles of tablets and stinky tea. All of which seems to be working brilliantly, and he's getting better at a great rate of knots. Yay!

And I went weeding in the back garden, so the rosemary bushes are now not buried under clumps of grass. I have a couple of primulas. Which are mostly eaten to lace by snails. *shrug* My seed tray full of lettuce, rocket, radish, carrot and onion is sprouting nicely, so I will be planting them out later this week. With luck. ;) Then I might do another tray full of nasturtiums. Yum! (Yeah, yeah, I know it's a bit late for all this, but hey, they're growing aren't they?)

I may even make it climbing tomorrow...

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?

A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?

A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable).

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body, and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: You're not listening. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you meshuga? ...Cocoa beans ... another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

Now go have a biscuit. Flour comes from wheat, which is a veggie!

And finally: if swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Went to see Spiderman 2 last night. It was good entertainment, well worth seeing on the big screen for all that swinging off buildings, and other fantastic special effects. The fights with Doc Oc were great. There were a few cheesy moments, though. And there were a few stirring 'We must stand together and hold on a little longer, and everyone needs a hero, everyone can be a hero' speeches. Which is what I'd expect from an American superhero film right now. But all-in-all, I really enjoyed it. As always, ymmv. ;)

Beer, chips and onion rings are three portions of vegetables. Four if you put ketchup on them.
