Today's rain hasn't materialised so far – it's nice and sunny outside and the dogs are running around enjoying themselves. Yesterday I managed to get five loads of washing done, three of which have been dried on the line and put away; the other two are sheets, pillowcases and duvet cases, and are just finishing off drying in the airing cupboard, or as they say around here, the hot press. Thrilling, eh?

I got around 1300 words written yesterday, which is pretty good considering how tired I was and that it's been like forcing words out through a sieve with a spoon! I'm going to try again today, see how much I get done. This Dragon Dictate lark seems to be going pretty well! I think I might be getting the hang of a few of the commands. It does make me realise just how much I slur my words, though, and how much my lisp affects my speech. Oh well, I'll never win awards for my voice acting abilities!

I updated my short stories spreadsheet yesterday evening after I'd finished writing. I keep track of works in progress as well as finished stories, and I have a brief note at the bottom of longer works as well. Here are my current stats:

  • Published stories: 14,700 words
  • Unpublished stories: 17,000 words
  • Fanfic: 369,000 words
  • Works in progress (inc. fanfic): 65,000 words
  • Novels: 101,300 words
  • Total word count: 567,000 words

I must admit, the sheer size of that number looks impressive to me, but then I think about how many years that word count spans, and what that means for my writing output, and really? I suck! I should be writing an awful lot more, and I really should stop writing so much fanfic! (But it's so much fun… *whine*)

I got another couple of rounds knitted on my jacket last night while Aliens was on TV. Not many more stripes now and I'll be casting off, then casting on again for the sleeves! Now that is exciting! (Well, it is to me, anyway.)

So, what's the plan for today? Writing (done), shower (done), something that vaguely resembles exercise (not even close), maybe even replying to a few more e-mails (alas, no). Clean the loo (put off til tomorrow). Scrub the bath (done for a certain value of done). Cut the hedge (started raining this afternoon). Wash the dog beds (see previous). Make some paper logs and put them out to dry (for the fire this winter - I soak junk mail, old envelopes, carboard packaging, etc and squish them into bricks with a paper log maker, then wrap them in a sheet of newspaper to keep them in one piece. When they're dry they burn for around an hour - saves on wood and coal, beats recycling, stops me and Newton from freezing - very handy!) (ah, fell asleep this afternoon, bummer) (done anyway).

The state of my inbox: under sixty-five e-mails!
