Yep. He didn’t finish the last Wheel of Time book (left notes but didn’t finish it) so the fandom has SPECTACULARLY EXPLODED with panic and infighting in a comedy way. Rigney knew he was ill for a long time, though, and it’d be crazy to think he hadn’t put plans in place. (I’m getting all this second-hand, I read books 1-7 then gave up.) They’re currently talking about getting an author in to convert his last notes to the second half of the book…
I thought the setting was great. His ideas like the different colours of Aes Sedai (with unequal numbers and unequal political pull) and the slowly-insane dangerous hero have huge scope.
I have to admit I had a moment of 'Oh No!' about never getting to read the end of the series. I'll have to re-read them all, I think. I have them all, but haven't read the last couple so far.
I love the politics of the books. Everyone's in on some intrigue or other. And having 3 heroes all quietly going nuts in their own ways is great. I'm really going to miss his writing.
What a shame! I was really rooting for that man. I wanted him to live, for his own sake of course, but also to be able to finish his masterpiece. I've read eight of the Wheel of Time books and I'm just about to order books 9 and 10, having bought book 11 some time ago. I thought I heard that his wife was going to finish the book rather than some writer.
