I took
ravenlas off to London this weekend for his birthday. Which was the weekend before, in case you were wondering. (And yes, he'd pretty much forgotten about it, and doesn't tell anyone about it.)
Train down at a reasonable hour? Just fine! A couple got on at Doncaster and sat at the table with us and asked about my nalbinding (mittens done, hat swiftly following).
Finding the hotel in Marble Arch? No problem! (It was lovely, btw.)
Negotiating the tube? Crowded, but no delays or hassles.
Food: lunch was sushi from Pret A Manger, dinner was at the hotel (ooh, perfectly cooked, service so good I had a hard time not giggling - I'm like that - and a 10% discount voucher), brunch was sushi from Wasabi on Oxford Rd, and dinner was a sarnie from Upper Crust at King's Cross. Not to mention numerous cuppas from various coffee bars.
The shows! Were excellent. Well worth going to see. We were up in the gods for Wicked (packed matinee, on the whole, very well-behaved kids, despite the evil sugar-peddlars wandering round in the interval) and for Spamalot (unspeakably hot). We had the understudy for Elpheba, who was brilliant. And the stand-out performance came from the Lady of the Lake. She was tall, not skinny, had a great stage presence and fantastic timing, and an excellent sense of humour. Including musical humour. And she has the voice to support it. Honestly? I don't think she needed any amplification. She outdid everyone else. I am in awe.
ravenlas had a great time. He didn't get stressed even when we were rushing to get to Spamalot (just made it into our seats as it was starting, thanks to the universe making it impossible for anything to go wrong). And we spent Sunday curled up in various coffee bars along Oxford Road, reading, doing absolutely nothing but chilling and chatting and enjoying being together. No manic rushing around! I can't remember the last time that happened!
So what could possibly go wrong?
*sigh*
Maybe my icon gives it away... We were booked in on the 9pm train back Oop North, due in at 11:11pm. When I checked the trains at 8:10, things were fine. Alas, shortly thereafter, Bad Things happened to the overhead lines (apparently), and nothing came into or left King's Cross until 10pm.
Oh dear.
We got into York at 1am.
I usually get up at 6:30am to, yanno, get to work.
So I showered and got to bed at 2am, and set my alarm for 7, and have had somewhere in the region of almost 5 hours sleep.
I am not a happy bunny. I'm dropping my complaint and request for compensation off in the post tonight.
Tonight will be an early night. I am doing nothing important, because sure as anything, I won't spot any of the myriad mistakes I make until tomorrow, if then. Do not call me or email me and expect much in the way of coherence.
Today, I hate GNER and Notwork bloody Rail. I want the phone numbers for the guys who run them so that I can call them up every 5 minutes and keep them awake until 2am, then call them again at 7am. See how they sodding well like it! If they'd been on the train last night? They wouldn't have got off again in one piece. I hate them to the very bottom of my (usually happy and not prone to hating at all) soul. Gah!!!
Aaaand... deep breath...
So that was the weekend.
alasdair1076 called me. I have Torchwood squeeeee! Awesome! Utterly, uttely awesome.
If anyone has a muppet icon I could use - you know, where they run around in circles waving their arms above their heads - that's me right now.
Squeeeeee!
