Actually, pretty much all the decisions are made. We still have a few things to sort out, such as heading over to NI to see [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas's extensive family, and throwing a party here.

So this is my countdown!

I finish work on Tuesday evening.
We fly out on Thursday.
We get married a week on Friday.

Hurray!

I am very excited, and if you try contacting me right now, you'll probably go deaf from the very loud and high-pitched *squeeeee* which is running through my head. Also, concentrating on work is next-to-impossible. Not helped by waking up from a dream yesterday with 'Mister Benn and the Men From Afghanistan' sitting in my head making me all spacey. Yes, it's that Mister Ben(n). No, it's not really for kids.

I am cold. I need lunch. And stockings. And a brain. Ooh, but my weight's down under *coughmumbleelevenstonecough* for the first time in at least 18 months. So that's good.

In my head, I'm running round in circles, waving my arms like a muppet. Really. Hear that squee!

Party!

52 days and counting... 44 days until we fly. :)

So. The party.

I'm looking at venues. What we want is a buffet and dancing and a bar, at the end of March. We don't want the big sit-down meal and speeches. And we'd like to invite somewhere on the region of 150-175 guests, though if we have to, we'll cut it down a bit.

The racecourse is looking at coming in somewhere around 3k for this, which just makes me wince. A friend is enquiring for me at York St John's. Does anyone have any other suggestions?1

1. Of course, if you can actually fit 150 people in your house and don't mind letting us party there, I'd be very grateful. And amazed. 150 people in your house?!! My goodness!2

2. If you are/are best friends with/have blackmail material on the owners of a venue, and can help us out, that'd also be fantastic.

Flights

I have finally booked the flights out to Las Vegas. Gosh! Next on my to-do list: booking the skiing at Lake Tahoe.

Anyone else coming along to any or all of this epic adventure?

Quick poll

Bearing in mind I'm going to Vegas to get married, and this is, in theory, a once-in-a-lifetime deal... AND bearing in mind that economy flights from Manchester are around 400 quid, premium economy is roughly 800 quid, and business class is around 1600 quid...

What do you all think I should fly? There are no Zeppelins, no cruise ships, and they haven't built the transatlantic rail link yet. Flying's about my only option.

By the way, if anyone happens to know a friendly travel agent who can get us upgrades, that would be absolutely fantastic. Otherwise, it's all going on Mastercard.

I know I've been a bit lax in wishing people happy birthday lately (doh!), so here goes (in date order):

Belated Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] thirstypixel, [livejournal.com profile] spindr, Fleur, and for last Saturday, Kate and [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas! And just to be on the safe side, Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] makyo for tomorrow!

My apologies if I've missed anyone...

Last week? Busy. This week? Even more busy. This weekend? [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas' birthday treat is a trip to London to see Wicked and Spamalot. Yay! Next week? Almost certainly busy again. Ho hum.

If you want to see me, I am hereby declaring Thursday nights 'open house night'. I'll be home some time between 6 and 6:30, barring train problems. You're welcome to come round and visit. And if you tell me in advance you're coming, I may even be able to provide biscuits, sandwiches, hot drinks, mulled wine, yada yada.

No, I'm not available to come visit you, not this week or next week, and maybe not the week after. Sorry, that's just the way it goes. I have a Chinese exam coming up, a dressmaking course, and a writing/proof-reading career, outside of my full-time job. To say nothing of 4 siblings, several parents and assorted friends to make presents for. And that makes the run-up to Christmas rather busy.

Oh, and I have a wedding to plan. Btw, anyone coming to my hen do? [livejournal.com profile] ayrton_nix needs to know numbers, I think.

Hen do!

The amazing [livejournal.com profile] ayrton_nix believes I need a hen do. And who am I to quibble? *beam* She has a poll up to pick the date, which is open to you all to fill in if you fancy coming along. Yes, it's open to you guys as well: bear in mind, I plan on doing much giggling and other girlie things. You have been warned!

There will be beer. There will be curry. And there will be the photography museum in Bradford. Not necessarily in that order, though... My little Northern heart is full of squee! Come and party, peeps!

My boss called me into his office - pointing out that he could have just spoken to me in my office (which I share with 3 programmers), but he wanted to warm his bum on his radiator - to tell me that he and the other director have agreed I should be the company health & safety officer. Which is fine with me.

And then we spent the next most of an hour talking about my wedding, with my boss getting really excited and looking up hotels and suchlike. *grin* He likes Vegas. It's his wedding anniversary in March, so he can just about justify a trip out there as being both for my wedding *and* for his anniversary. Not just because he likes going there to play poker and see shows and stay at Hooters. For the chicken wings. Obviously... *beam*

Wow. I love my job. I love the company I work for. It's awesome! lol

I have the confirmation email. We're booked into the Little Church of the West, 1.30pm (local time) on February 29th 2008. You're all invited. And yes, there will be a webcam feed you'll be able to access for a month afterwards.

It's the pre-wedding travel arrangements that are making me cross-eyed right now...

We're probably flying from Manchester, there being a lack of ships heading across the Atlantic in February, for some reason. And no dirigible service at all. But where to?

We could fly direct to Las Vegas and spend the time in and around the city.
We could fly to San Francisco, have a few days there, then either fly or drive to Las Vegas.
We could fly to New York, stop overnight, then get the train out to Reno. And then somehow get down to Vegas. Which I'd actually like to do. But [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas doesn't fancy spending several days stuck on a train.

So, peeps - any ideas? Suggestions? Help! My head is 'splodey!
ellenscult: (nell gwyn)
Right, well, it's booked. They're going to get back to me within 24 hours to confirm, but with luck, [livejournal.com profile] ravenlas and I will be getting married on the 29th of February 2008 at 1:30pm WST (9:30pm GMT iirc) at the Little Church of the West.

Yay!

Now I just have to book hotels, flights, yada yada... Ooh, and we're going skiing at Lake Tahoe for a week afterwards with my sisters and anyone else who wants to come. We're having a week on our own in Vegas before the wedding.

Yes, I know, we're doing it our own way. Hurrah!

I'm currently looking through wedding chapel packages. In Las Vegas. (Yes, on the sad and solemn annual remembrance of our lad's attempt at bringing democracy to the North of England. Well, Guy Fawkes' day. Bonfire night. Okay, okay, he's from around here, 'mkay?)

Is it wrong, while attempting to plan my wedding, to be laughing so hard I sound like an asthmatic Muttley? Hmmm....

I am *so* looking forward to this. *beam*

And no, we're still not going for the Elvis Pink Cadillac Drive-Thru wedding...

Edit: I'm considering the Little Church of the West. *bounce*
